Internet Acceptable Use Policy

This Domain and Its Servers' Acceptable Use Policy

In Canada, hackers who access a computer system without authorization commit an offence under section 342.1 of the Criminal Code. Such offenders will be prosecuted vigorously.

The Internet is intended for use by mature adults (and by minors when supervised by mature adults).

Our visitors and members are expected to use the Internet with respect, courtesy, and responsibility, giving due regard to the rights of other Internet users.

The member/user//visitor is expected to have a basic knowledge of how the internet functions, the types of use which are generally acceptable, and the types of use which are to be avoided.

Common sense is the best guide as to what is considered acceptable use.

Internet Uncceptable Use Defined

Unacceptable is illegality in any form, including but not limited to activities such as unauthorized distribution
or copying of copyrighted software, violation of export restrictions, harassment, fraud, trafficking in obscene material, drug dealing, and other illegal activities.

Unacceptable Use is net abuse, including but not limited to activities such as using a non-existent email return address on a commercial solicitation, spamming (sending unsolicited advertising to numerous email addresses or newsgroups and/or generating a significantly higher volume of outgoing email than a normal user), trolling (posting outrageous messages to generate numerous responses), mail bombing (sending multiple messages without significant new content to the same user), subscribing someone else to a mailing list without that person's permission, cross-posting articles to an excessive number of newsgroups, or attempting without authorization to enter into a secured computer system.

Unacceptable Use Is
Tortious conduct, including but not limited to posting of defamatory, scandalous, or private information about a person without their consent, intentionally inflicting emotional distress, or violating trademarks, copyrights, or other intellectual property rights.

Unacceptable Use Is
Misuse of system resources, including but not
limited to employing Posts or programs which consume excessive CPU time or storage space; permitting use of mail services mail forwarding capabilities, POP accounts, or autoresponders other than for the customer's own account; or resale of access to CGI scripts installed on our servers.

Dispute Resolution

The RINJ Foundation and it's Host server administrators reserve the right to determine what constitutes net abuse.

Security

Use of secured computer and network facilities requires prior authorization. Unauthorized access is prohibited. Usage may be subject to security testing and monitoring. Abuse is subject to criminal, civil, and extra-legal prosecution.

‣ The RINJ Foundation seeks to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, including by ending impunity and by ensuring the protection of civilians, in particular women and girls, during and after armed conflicts, in accordance with the obligations States have undertaken under international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Guidelines For The Board Of Directors

Download  Primer for Board of Directors

Ideally, any board of directors should be made up of individuals who bring a wide array of skills and expertise to the task of governing a not-for-profit corporation. So it is perhaps fitting that in creating this publication, we have enjoyed the luxury of drawing on an exceptionally broad range of talents and experience.

The Primer for Directors of Not-for-Profit Corporations was commissioned from the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy as part of Industry Canada's consultation work on reforming the Canada Corporations Act. The project benefited from the input of numerous Industry Canada staff working under the direction of first Lee Gill, then Gilles Gauthier. Eva Fried, Nicolas Lavoie and Veronica Wessels all provided assistance and feedback, helping to ensure the text was as comprehensive, accessible and accurate as possible.

Individual contributors are identified at the beginning of each chapter. These credits however, may not convey the collaborative effort that went into many chapters. Our collective aim was to produce the most user-friendly and comprehensible text we could. To do so, inevitably some material that was conceived as part of one chapter found its way elsewhere. It is a mark of the professionalism and commitment to this project of the contributors that they all readily agreed to this, without insisting that these changes be individually acknowledged.

The finished text before you would not have been possible without the participation of Norah McClintock and David Stevens. Norah provided her keen eye to ensure the text never got bogged down in legalese, and David his astute insight so that our desire to use plain language never compromised the legal integrity of the publication. As well, Paul Martel added essential information throughout the text on treatment of not-for-profit corporations and their directors under Québec Civil Law. The striking design of the book was the work of Wioletta Wesolowski.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the dedication of Peter Broder, my colleague at the Centre for Philanthropy and the co-ordinating editor of this volume, as well as the work of Michael Anderson and Robert MacKenzie of the Canadian Association of Society Executives, and the Executive of the Canadian Bar Association Charity and Not-for-Profit Law Section, for their input and help in winning endorsement of the publication from their respective organizations.

RINJ Standards Program

The RINJ Foundation has adopted Imagine Canada's Standards Program which offers a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and nonprofits designed to strengthen their capacity in five fundamental areas:
  • board governance
  • financial accountability & transparency
  • fundraising
  • staff management
  • volunteer involvement
The Standards Program is first and foremost a capacity-building initiative. Any organization may use these standards to improve and monitor its practices. Information about how to comply with the standards, as well as tools and resources to help organizations continue to strengthen their practices, is available free of charge. Organizations wishing to demonstrate publicly that they meet the standards can participate in a voluntary peer-review-based accreditation process

Who are the "RINJ Women"

We are the (Rape Is No Joke) RINJ Women who fought in the 2000s to get the money-making pro-rape and child sex slavery content off social media platforms, ending on 4 November 2011. Some of us collectively decided to continue our work for the universal rights of women and girls. We incorporated on 21 August 2012 after years of fighting as a grass roots organization called The RINJ Campaign. We have no restrictions. That's our story. We move forward striving for gender equality universally despite the setbacks that have been experienced globally, and despite the attacks of misogynistic authoritarians.
